I added a new page to the blog. I do other things besides drinking coffee and whiskey and reading comics all day. I also work on homework and do embroidery—sassy embroidery- to help with stress. As cute as some of the embroidery can be, stitching "Have a nice day" doesn't always convey the same feeling as "Punch the day in the face" or "What fresh Hell is This?". Many of these projects have been given away as gifts. I hope to turn some of these into pillows or bags soon. I have a lot of them done, and they are just sitting around collecting dust.
I started this hobby during the pandemic. I was in therapy, and my therapist asked what my hobbies were, and I didn't have the answer. I had fundamental ones, like reading, cooking, and going to the gym. But as she pointed out, those were things I did anyway, or I was doing for my family or with my family, nothing really for myself or to be alone. So, my husband and I devised a list of things I could try. Some of the things on that list were:
Walking
Skincare
Journaling
embroidery
trying a new recipe each week
Writer group
Going away watching a TV show that I would enjoy (We don't have TV)
I chose three to explore: journaling, skincare, and embroidery. Embroidery has been a fun hobby but also a learning curve. While I know some of the basic stitches, learning some harder ones has been challenging. Wagon wheels will always be difficult for me. As of right now, I have done about 35 of them and have 3 in progress. I no longer do sassy ones but also women with flowers, and I'm currently working as a sea captain.
Where do I get my patterns? Amazon, Etsy, and online shops. I started with Amazon and then went to Etsy. Etsy has more themes, though fewer kits. They tend to favor PDFs, which can be frustrating, so paying attention to what you buy helps. I also had my husband change some of the wording and even design one for me.
